It is located in the heart of Teide National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This active, though dormant, volcano attracts tourists from all over the world not only because of its height but also due to its extraordinary landscapes, which resemble the surface of Mars.
Climbing to the summit of Teide is a unique experience – visitors can take the Teleférico del Teide cable car, which ascends to 3,555 meters. From there (with a permit), it is possible to hike to the very top. The view from the summit is breathtaking, and on a clear day, one can see the neighboring islands of the archipelago.
Mount Teide is also an important location for scientists and astronomy enthusiasts – thanks to its clear skies and minimal light pollution, it is home to one of the world’s most important astronomical observatories.
